Happy to have won a significant defamation defense action in New York Supreme Court. I represented a renowned, celebrity attorney and his law firm. They were both sued for defamation, interference with business relations and infliction of emotional distress.The Plaintiff sought in excess of one million dollars in damages. I moved to dismiss the complaint based on CPLR 3211 (a) (1) and (7). Justice Freed of the New York Supreme Court agreed with our position in a well reasoned nine page decision and entered an order dismissing in its entirety the action against our clients. This case is a good example as to why early motions to dismiss defamation actions are critical. My clients have been fully and properly vindicated of any wrongdoing.
